Toki Tori hatches this Monday in North America

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

Wow, how nice is it to know a game is coming out before it’s released? For once, we get to experience the luxury of being told what’s coming out, or at least we think we do. GoNintendo reports that Two Tribes’ adorable 2D puzzler Toki Tori will be available in the North American Wii Shop this Monday at a cost of 1,000 Points. We aren’t sure where the info came from, but they certainly seem sure.

10 bucks may be a lot of scratch for a WiiWare game, but this is a good one: reputable game blog Wii Fanboy called it “intelligent, charming, well-designed, and addictive.” It’s also hard, which means you don’t run the risk of blowing through it in a couple of hours.

SNES9X v3.1 - automatically detects TV’s video mode

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

Nintendo's Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) console - Image 1If you aren’t content with the selection of games found on the Virtual Console, you might want to try out developer LoPsT’s latest homebrew SNES emulator for the Nintendo Wii platform. SNES9X v3.1 for the Wii supports many of the basic features from the open source emulator with the same name.

One of the biggest changes included in SNES9X v3.1 is perhaps the automatic detection of the video mode your console’s TV is running on. This definitely makes it easier to configure the best resolution to run your emulator on via it’s built-in video options.

Anyway, here’s the translated list of new changes included since our previous coverage of SNES9X:

  • Support for commanders Game Cube
  • Automatically detects the video mode of the TV (PAL60, 480p)

For additional instructions on how to properly install the emulator into your console, please read the documentation included in the downloadable file bundle. You can also view the different controls through the readme.txt file.

Another Week in Europe

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

Stock shortages cruelly deprived Wii Fit of a Top 40 spot in the UK this week (which constitutes one heck of a drop, considering it was third last week), but the rest of Europe seems to have plentiful supplies of the title, thanks very much. Wii Fit bumped Grand Theft Auto IV off of top spot in Germany and Spain, and reached fourth place in Ireland and Holland.

In fact, don’t be surprised to see desperate Brits in the coming weeks smuggling the thing back to the UK from mainland Europe, much like what happened with the Wii itself before Christmas. Then again, maybe they’re happy to get fleeced — some quick browsing reveals that the game is already going for waaaay over its recommended retail price on eBay’s UK site — just take a look for yourselves. Yowza!

Wii Fit fever aside, Mario Kart Wii is showing no signs of running out of steam, while Mario and Sonic and Wii Play are also keeping the Wii flag flying high.

Super Mario RPG hits Japanese VC soon

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

Super Mario RPG - Image 1 We all know how hot the new-fangled WiiWare is for Nintendo Wii owners across the planet, but that doesn’t mean the Virtual Console is to be forgotten so easily. It still has enough blasts from the past to warrant the attention of gamers new and old.

Case in point is Super Mario RPG set to hit the Japanese VC on the 3rd of June. If some of you can recall, this is the last Mario game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and is also one of its generation’s very best offerings.

Behind this masterpiece was Square in their younger years with the direct guidance of the revered Shigeru Miyamoto. The title featured superb gameplay and one of the most memorable team-ups in video game history: Mario and Bowser fighting for the common good.

Super Mario RPG is set to cost 900 Wii Points, which is a hundred more than the typical VC title. Don’t let that get to you, though. This game is well worth the extra credits as you will find out once you start playing it. More updates come your way soon, so stay with us.

Ubisoft Respond to Negativity of Wii Gamers

Mugen Puchi Puchi trailer is wraptastic

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

We may be the only people thrilled about Namco Bandai’s Ouchi de Mugen Puchi Puchi Wii, but we think we make up for everyone else’s lack of enthusiasm. Seriously, after watching this trailer, we are going to die if Namco Bandai doesn’t release this in the U.S. We will just pop. We just like WiiWare games about popping bubbles, apparently.

If this trailer doesn’t get you completely stoked about popping bubble wrap to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” creating a path for a little character out of popped bubbles, and twisting up a sheet of virtual bubble wrap to pop it, then you simply have no bubble-popping spirit. You probably even think the theme song is annoying.

Wii Warm Up: Losing faith

Posted by admin On May - 31 - 2008

Sometimes, after being handed bad game after bad game (or at the very least, patronizing game after patronizing game), you can’t help but lose faith in a company. Hence our thoughts regarding the Prince of Persia rumor- if it’s true, we just don’t if know if we believe that Ubisoft can deliver a quality Wii-based Prince of Persia game.

How about you? Are there any publishers or developers that you’ve lost faith in when it comes to making games for the Wii?
